PALM SUNDAY REFLECTION
When Praise Changes, Purpose Must Remain Gospel of Matthew 21:1-11
On this glorious day, the crowd lifted their voices
and cried, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" Yet, within a few days, the same voices would shout, "Crucify Him!”
This moment reveals a powerful truth:
Human praise is unstable-but God's purpose is unshakable. Even in the midst of shifting voices, Jesus Christ remained focused on His mission.
1. THE INSTABILITY OF HUMAN PRAISE
The same crowd that celebrated Jesus turned against Him.
People can celebrate you today and reject you tomorrow. Praise can be emotional, not spiritual Applause can be seasonal, not permanent
Do not anchor your life on what people say. If you live for people's approval, you will die by their rejection.
2. THE DANGER OF MISPLACED EXPECTATIONS
The crowd shouted "Hosanna" expecting a political deliverer. But Jesus came as a spiritual Savior. When He didn't meet their expectations, they turned against Him.
People will celebrate you as long as you fit their expectations.
Not everyone praising you understands your assignment Stay true to God's calling-even when misunderstood
3. THE DISCIPLINE OF OBEDIENCE OVER APPLAUSE
Jesus did not adjust His mission to match the crowd. He stayed on course-to the cross. Obedience to God must be louder than the voices of people.
The crowd said "Hosanna" Later they said "Crucify Him” But God said, "This is My beloved Son"
Application: Don't change direction because people change opinions stay obedient even when it costs you
4. THE POWER OF A FIXED PURPOSE
Jesus remained focused-He knew why He came.
He was not distracted by praise or discouraged by rejection.
A person who knows their purpose cannot be controlled by public opinion.
When you know your assignment, you become stable When your identity is in God, people cannot define you Purpose keeps you steady when voices become noisy.
Conclusion:
A Call to True Alignment Palm Sunday confronts us with a question:
Are we part of the praising crowd-or the committed followers?
It is easy to shout "Hosanna" But can we remain faithful when following Jesus becomes costly?
