Psalms 29:1-11, 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, 1John 1:5-10.
These gifts are like the equipment or tools that are used to make something, when it comes to selfless service. Each gift is meant to achieve a certain objective and to qualify or strengthen the other gifts. No gift is given that does not impact the body of Christ. Whatever gift you have or that is there, it is for a reason and work on someone. These gifts work together but manifests differently.
"How do these spiritual gifts help in the service?"
It is important to remember that the spiritual gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 12:1–11 are not for personal glory, but for building up others in love. They are tools the Holy Spirit gives us to serve effectively in the Body of Christ, whether that's in church, missions, or daily life.
Let’s try to look at how each gift contributes to selfless service:
1. Word of wisdom
This is how it helps, it gives divine direction or counsel in complex situations by enabling one to guide others toward God’s will, especially in conflict, decisions, or teaching.
Example: Helping a church leader navigate a tough decision with God’s insight.
2. Word of knowledge
This works by bringing divine understanding of people or situations we couldn’t know naturally by allowing one to minister specifically and powerfully, encouraging or convicting someone of God's will.
Example: Speaking to someone’s hidden struggle and bringing healing or repentance.
3. Faith
This brings and inspires unshakable trust in God for impossible things, which impacts by encouraging others to believe and persevere in trials; often linked with miracles as well as self.
Example: Believing for healing or provision when no one else sees a way.
4. Gifts of healing
This gift helps in bringing physical, emotional, or spiritual healing through prayer and laying on of hands. It is also evident by relieving suffering, strengthening faith, and showing the power of God. It is really encouraging when you pray for someone with like cancer and see them healed.
5. Working of miracles
This gift makes one feel and experience how God intervenes supernaturally beyond the natural law leading to Increased faith, demonstrating God’s authority, and opening hearts to the gospel.
An example here is when Jesus miraculously calmed a storm during a mission trip, or multiplied food.
6. Prophecy
This gift helps members to know how and when God declares His heart for encouragement, correction, or comfort. This builds up the Church, confirms direction, convicts sin, and draws people to Christ.
7. Discerning of Spirits
This gift helps Christians recognize the spiritual source behind a person, teaching, or manifestation. It protects the church from deception or demonic influence.
8. Interpretation of Tongues
This helps in explaining the meaning of a message spoken in tongues. It allows the entire body to be edified by a supernatural message.
When a tongue is spoken in a service, and another person interprets it, bringing encouragement to the congregation.
In conclusion, it is important to know that Spiritual gifts without spiritual character are dangerous. But when spiritual gifts operate through selfless, holy vessels, they become powerful tools of healing, hope, and transformation in the lives of others.
