Building a legacy of Faith
Joshua 1:6-9; Philippians 4:8-9:
In the mission we have, is built on what others did in the Bible formation period. We have records of how the early Church fathers lived, how the Prophets lived and how God dealt with them setting the stage for what happened during and after their time. The bible is all about what God said, says today and what is to be. Jesus set an example of how God’s children should leave and he was a model within who all Christians should emulate.
In the above texts, we are guided on how we are to build a legacy.
Building a legacy of faith reflecting on the texts means living a life grounded in God’s Word, courageous obedience, and godly thinking, so that your life continues to influence others spiritually even after you’re gone.
1. Courage and obedience: Joshua 1:6-9
“Be strong and courageous… Be careful to obey all the law… Then you will be prosperous and successful… Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:6-9, summarized)
Key takeaways for building a legacy:
- Be courageous in faith: Like Joshua, legacy-builders must be bold in following God’s calling, even when it’s hard. Your courage inspires others to trust God in their own battles.
- Rooted in God’s word: A lasting faith legacy comes from a consistent, intentional relationship with Scripture. Meditating on God’s Word “day and night” creates depth and direction.
- Lead by example: Joshua’s leadership and obedience left a model for future generations. Legacy is not just what you teach but how you live.
The key thing here is to be consistent in studying and obeying God’s Word. Let your courage and decisions reflect your faith in God’s promises.
2. Right thinking and living; Philippians 4:8-9
“Whatever is true… noble… right… pure… lovely… admirable think about such things… Put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” (Phil. 4:8-9)
Key takeaways for building a legacy:
- Shape your mind: A legacy of faith is shaped by what we dwell on. Thinking about godly things transforms how we act and what we pass on.
- Live what you believe: Paul tells believers to practice what they’ve learned from him. Your life becomes the teaching tool.
- Peace as a fruit: When you live this way, your life is marked by peace—an attractive and enduring legacy for your family, friends, and community.
Here, the major assignment is to guard your thought life. Let your actions flow from a mind saturated in godly values. Practice what you believe consistently.
This is therefore how to Live It daily basis;
- Daily devotion where you spend regular time in Scripture and prayer (Joshua 1:8).
- Faithful action where you do what the Word says, even when it's hard.
- Mentorship, where you teach and model godly living to others.
- Spiritual integrity where you align your inner thoughts (Phil. 4:8) with your outer life (Phil. 4:9).
- Persevere in trials where you show others how faith holds you steady in hardship.
The legacy you therefore should be build and or leave is;
- A life that points others to trust in God.
- A family or community shaped by Scripture and peace.
A testimony of courage, conviction, and Christlikeness
