ZECHARIAH 9:9, LUKE 19: 28-36
The triumphal entry is an event in the Christian tradition which is fulfilled prophecy, which took place just before the crucifixion of Jesus.
Two questions that would help us understand deeper are
1. What is significance of Palm Sunday to Christians?
2. What lesson can we draw from the story of the triumphal entry.
The key aspect of the significance of the triumphal entry’s is the fulfilment of prophecy which was written in Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, daughter of Jerusalem! See your king comes to you righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey.
Humility and peace were witnessed in the triumphal entry, Jesus demonstrated his humble nature of a servant leader, yet he was fully man and fully God, this should help Christians serve God in humility and reverence and not pursuing worldly power and glory.
The air was filled with shouts of Hosanna a cry of salvation and deliverance, and they we’re carrying branches of the palm tree. John 12: 13 “Hosanna” Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
The most important lesson we learn from the story of the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem is the acknowledgment of Jesus as King and the importance of us Christians obeying God’s commands all the days of our lives. Jesus died on the cross for all of us so that we may be saved.
This should be time of reflection in our very own lives as Christians to seek deep within ourselves where we have sinned against God first is to repentance before God, service to God in the church, and transformation in our walk with God.
