Psalm 62:1-2 Isaiah 26: 1-4
Psalm 62 :1-2 Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation, he is my fortress, I shall never be shaken. These verses are David’s confirmation on where he stands as a believer, it’s a very personal declaration on whom he believes in and the only place where he finds rest. As a believer in the 21st century where do you find rest? The world has a lot of challenges from war, economic challenges, family issues, global pandemics like Corvid 19, scarcity of food due to harsh weathers the list is endless.
In the book of John 16:33 I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart I have overcome the world. We see Jesus also giving assurance to his disciples.
Salvation is both divine work and a divine gift, God’s salvation is supreme. David focuses on words, like ‘truly’ and ‘surely’. These are statements of total submission and surrender to God Almighty. The words highlight who God is in David’s life.
Psalm 62:2 Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress; I shall never be shaken. David’s seems to write this psalm passing through a storm and knows God is the only rock and pillar of strength that he needs. This connects to the parable of the wise and foolish builders brings out the comparison too well Matthew 7: 24 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
In the book of Joshua 24:15 Joshua declares a stand for him and his household on service to God. Brethren we are living in times when a lot of things happening today have really gone against the will and purpose of God. As Christians it is important that we too declare our stand and make it public for the world to know. Whenever we are going through challenges the world is very quick to offer solutions, but the key question is, are the solutions sustainable.
Like David we need to be patient and wait upon the Lord no matter the time it takes to get the solution to what you have been waiting for. We are in the Lent period where we are fasting and trusting God for greatness. If you have not given your life to Christ this would be a good opportunity to give your life to Christ and submit to him fully. Like the wise builder building your relationship to God Almighty the author and perfecter of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2).
