We are honored that we belong together as a family of people faith here at LUC. This month our reflections have been on the very pertinent subject of CHRISTIAN FAMILY. Today we wish to explore the Christian family as a place to belong. To belong means to be in the relation of a member.

The family on the other hand is the most basic institution of society into which every human person is born and related by blood with fellow humans .The Christian family is where those relations are submitted to the Lordship of Jesus Christ so that there is deliberate nurture of his nature amongst its members.

The bible recognizes the Christian family as the ideal institution for unconditional acceptance and mutual association in view of God. The principle of belonging in the Christian family connotes mutual support and preferential consideration of each other. “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”  Galatians 6:10.

The spiritual heritage is divine bond amongst members of the family and their almighty God.

“You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.”

Deuteronomy 6:6 “The wise man King Solomon observes that one becomes vulnerable and vain life when they fail to appreciate their family to which they belong. “There is one alone, without companion: He has neither son nor brother. Yet there is no end to all his labors, nor is his eye satisfied with riches. But he never asks, “For whom do I toil and deprive myself of good? “This also is vanity and a grave misfortune.” - Ecclesiastes 4:8

We can further decode the benefits of belonging to the family in the following verses.
9Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor.
10For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has
no one to help him up.
11Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; But how can one be warm alone?
12Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not
     quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9 -12

The five benefits of belonging to a Christian family are:
1. Strategic Mutual Advantages - two are better than one (Vs 9a)
2. Sure Productivity - they have a good reward (Vs 9b)
3. Share Ownership of the demands of the relationship - their labor (Vs 9b)
4. Mutual Support Systems - if one falls the other will life him up. One will lift up his companion. (Vs 10)
5. Secure Alternative Environment -  where one is not judged in their moments of adversity - if two lie
down together, they will keep warm (Vs 11)
6. Strength and Synergy for facing life battles and adversaries- one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken (Vs 12)

We pray that you will begin to deliberately appropriate this implicit benefits of belonging in Christian family this week and the rest of your life.
